Would love to get some feedback on a project idea.
I was thinking about doing a p bass with a mahogany body and neck and a rosewood fingerboard.
What are your thoughts on how that wood combo would sound? I was going for a really fat, deep, dark tone. I thought that combo would suit a p bass well and vice versa.
I played a Gibson EB, which as I understand was both mahogany and short scale. I really liked how tubby it was, especially through the neck pup.
I guess I'm just afraid of the p bass being kinda muddy, but I guess that's kind of unlikely since the short scale Gibson wasn't?
A full thickness honduran mahogany body will add two to three pounds of weight to the guitar over alder or swamp ash. Since a stock P-pickup is middy anyway, it won't change the tone appreciably, just add marginally more mids.
My Minarik bass has a mahogany body & neck with a rosewood fingerboard and a P pickup, but it's not really a P bass. The tone is amazing IMO, lots and lots of thick mids that make the bass jump out in a band situation.
I am building a mahogany Pbass myself and I wonder if anybody could advice me on wich pickup would be the best considering the type of wood.. I do not care about mid's at all, I just turn on bass and high frequencies as much as possible I was oriented to Lindy Fralin but I would appreciate any advice ! thanks guys Talkbass is the best!!!
