I started drawing out the full size template on mdf.

I cut out the template, this should give you a good representation of the proportions.

Another gorgeous one from Jared. I love the tail of the bass on this one, you may in the future wanna turn this shape into a headless...

I agree with Tim, this as a headless would kill.

If not headless, it would look much tastier if the B and E strings were on one side of the headstock, while the A, D, and G strings would be on the other.

tasty.

I like it! But the knobs seem to disturb the beautiful body with sound holes... maybe you could stack some of them and place then right beneath the bridge?

I never thought of doing a headless... hmmm.

As far as the knobs go, it will actually have 5 knobs plus a varitone switch. So basically the entire bottom section will be knobs. Some of those are already stacked, so it can't condense much more sadly. That is just the rendering, I will obviously think their positions over more for the final product.

Looks nice.

Is it possible to put an f-hole on the bass side, and rather than an f-hole, the knobs and switches layed out in the exact same shape on the treble side? Even if that meant un-stacking some knobs to add a few more.

could look cool, or could look horrible, just an idea.

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't dig headless designs?

This one is looking good though. I really need to get a hold of you to come up and grab a beer sometime. Auburn Ale House?

I'll have to talk to the customer about that because I have been toying with the idea of no f hole on the treble side as there isn't much room. You will be given credit if we do that though.

how about an ebony "faux" f-hole inlay on the treble side and an ebony or ebony coloured veneer on the inside of the bass side "true" f-hole to match it up?

I think that would have the same problem because I wouldn't want to cover up the treble side inlay. So it might as well be an actual f hole. Right?

Also possible, an ebony inlay faux f-hole with the knobs mounted on top of it.

Nope.

Oh - beautiful design, BTW. I agree about the knobs - gotta figure out something there. Maybe recessed knobs along the top edge of the body?

Well, to each his/her own, but I think they generally look like crap too. That said, I can appreciate fine craftsmanship any day, and Jared is clearly a fine craftsman...

IMHO everyone who can build something like this is a genius, so who am I to say anything. But. Why the clichés of f-holes and horns?\
I like the inward curve on the bridge end of the body. It is like the mouth of a veil tail goldfish swimming to the left. How about some new models taken from wildlife for body shaping?

+1 I'm very impressed by Jared's craftsmanship. That's why I'm already saving up for my JC bass. I hate having to save up for anything!!

And I'm digging the way this bass is shaping up by the way. FWIW, I kind of like the idea of the faux f-hole on the treble side.

Thanks guys for such nice comments.

I made the rendering with the knobs in the f hole position and it didn't look very good at all. It was good in theory, but didn't really give much definition to the f hole shape.

I still have time to figure something out though...

With the ebony f hole inlay and knobs over it:

With the ebony f hole inlay and knobs around it:

With the cutout f hole and knobs around it:

I don't know, I still keep coming back to actually having a real f hole. Maybe the knobs can be moved though. I always think it is easier to do in real life.
