Jigs & stuff...

Sign in to disble this ad
A few months ago when I finally decide to build my own bass I start to research over internet about the subject. Some sites were good some not that good. The ones that I liked or found interesting were added to my favorite links list. So you could find in links about wood types, tutorials, luthiers and big companies sites, etc etc ...all mixed.

Some of the links I added to this list were from guys in TB and in other sites. These guys prefer to build their on jig and not to spend $80 at StewMac. I thought each time ...heyyy that's nice!! why to buy and spend $80 when you can build it, have fun and save $70. I had several links about these jigs. Some of them were kinds of how to build a XX jig step-by-step, others were just pics of the jig already finished but I found them good enough to give me an idea about which way to go with this or that jig.

I decide to put some order there and ended up with the list you'll see below.

There could be some guys here in TB who would want to find some how-to jig thread which read a month ago and just couldn't find it or just too lazy too look for it with the search function. For all of them I decide to put the list I did here.

This is a list I made for my personal use and posted in here if anybody could find it useful (for me it is and I'm sure it will be and thus it will keep growing). So, if you find it useful ...that's great, if not ...well just keep searching for some threat here or some site over internet and if you find something good ...please add it in here.

Having said all that ...here we goooooo...

Carved Guitar Jig
http://www.setchellguitars.co.uk/ant/blog/?cat=8 (look down the scarf-joint's how to which is really good too)

Dremel Router Base Jig
http://www.setchellguitars.co.uk/ant...remel_base.jpg

http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/in...showtopic=6851 (another one but with acrylic base)

Drill Press into Lathe

Duplicating Carver Jig ...machine or whatever??
http://www.mykaguitars.com/tools/carver/default.htm

Dremel Table

Fret Bender Jig??
http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/bender.htm

Fret Slotting Jig
http://www.geocities.com/keithgregg1946/page12.html (Added 06-12-06)

Leveling Fret Jig (Added 06-12-06)
http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/fretting.htm Jump almost to the end of the page.

http://www.tundraman.com/Jigs/Tools.CFM This one is similar to the one above but I find that one better than this because you not only level the frets to 35° but before you can use it to square the frets off against the fretboard.

Neck Carve Jig
http://www.mykaguitars.com/tools/nec...ig/default.htm

Neck Pocket Jig
http://www.mykaguitars.com/tools/nec...ig/default.htm

Neck Support Cauls
http://www.buildyourguitar.com/resou...s/necksupp.htm

Planer Jig(???)
CHEAP AND EASY TO MAKE PLANER

First Build - 5 String, Neck Thru, Fanned Fret (another router-into-planner jig but this one from TBer DigThemLow)

Radius Blocks
http://www.buildyourguitar.com/resou...s/radblock.htm

http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/radius.htm

Fretboard Radius Jig
http://www.bunnybass.com/e-zine/desi...diary_08.shtml (just scroll down to the end and you'll see the jig on the last 3 pics)

http://www.luthiersforum.com/pages/j..._taper_jig.htm This one more than a jig is a method to get a fretboard radiused with a planner (Added 06-12-06)

Scarf Joint Jig
This is how I cut a scarf jointed neck (jump to the 12th post) (Wilser)

http://pweb.jps.net/~kmatsu/htmlpages/scarfjig.html (another scarf joint jig)

http://www.buildyourguitar.com/resou...s/scarfjnt.htm (pretty much like Wilser's)

Stationary Binding Jig
http://www.mimf.com/cgi-bin/WebX?50@...qV.2@.1dcf86b6

Table Saw Jointing Jig (not sure about this one but I'll mention anyway)
http://www.newwoodworker.com/tsjointjig.html

Wiring Jig
Wiring jigs (Rodent)

All-in-One Jig
http://home.mindspring.com/~adhamilton/id13.html (It's not really an all-in-one jig but it really closer ot one ) (Hambone)

I looked for some Hambone and Pilot jig mentioned in some threat from one year ago but I couldn't find any pic of them sooo ...guys could be great if you publish any pic of that jig that Hambone got from Mr. Kosch, Pilot took from Hambone and then Hambone took back from Pilot.

Any comment or addition will be great!!!

Emils and Jazzdog you do not have to thank me. Actually we all who find any of these links interesting or helpful should thanks Hambone, Rodent, Wilser and all the other people who spend some time posting and sharing the way they found to make things easier (and cheaper!!!). All that I did was just put them all together .

Rather than a sticky, the post should be copied and added to the stickied Builder FAQ thread. Very nice.

Hi. Four links were added today.

For the ones who are about to start the fretboard slotting just by pulse because you don't have Hambone's jig or just don't want to spend $74.86 at StewMac on this

...take a look at the fret slotting jig link added today. I don't think you are going to spend more that $7.486 and it looks simply as hell to be made.
