Laminate neck and the ability to make one

Sign in to disble this ad
In order to prep the wood pieces for gluing a liminate neck, what would be the most helpful: Jointer, thickness sander, or planer.

Also, just how smooth do the pieces need to be before gluing? I understand that flatness on the sides that meet in the gluing is a must, but just how smooth? I'd really like to go the laminate route, but must consider what tools to acquire beforehand. Thanks!

All three on the neck work alone? Is there one in particular that is really indispensable?

If I had to pick one I would say Joiner. You want each piece to have 90 degree angles. .....t

Hopefully somebody will pipe up with more info.....

I've only built 1 laminated neck, all I used was a #5 handplane, worked like a charm!

I'd say a thickness sander.

You need flat (and unchipped!) and not too smooth;

Go thickness sander and 80 grit (and vacuum the faces to glue, to get rid of all dust...).
