Thanks, I appreciate that. I wanted to be part of the 3 wood build, but life got in the way so, I understand... no worrys. Maybe (down the road a bit) we can try something like this again . I think it would be fun.

Yeah, Andrew, the wings look great, as for something else, I have had a few ideas for charity builds. I do a couple ever Christmas for a Detroit based instrument charity, and always thought it would be cool to do something directly relayed to the LC regulars, but organizing it with the conflicting schedules, and personalities is tough.

This thread has done a very bad thing. Instead of only one person agonizing over the wait for the mail service; dozens of innocent TBs must wait to see what's next.
Great work guys, this will be an incredible bass.

LMAO well, we'll try and add to the excitement after Christmas. We have some small very crucial things bing done now, I am milling the wood for the neck blank which will compliment Andrews awesome body wings, truss rod is being made, Fingerboard is being shaped and radiused by Adam, Hopkins has finished the logos, so things are moving along.

Hey folks. Sorry for the delay.

I volunteered to shape the fingerboard for Alex's bass on my CNC machine. I didn't realized how BIG this thing is. The rectangle represents the cutting envelope of my machine:

It doesn't fit diagonally, either. So I'm working on a strategy to cut this in two steps. Pics soon.

I'll have you know you just cost me several thousand dollars, but I'm mostly happy about it.

Glad I could help

Went to Lowe's to get a piece of shelving to extend my cutting area. Also found a great piece of maple to run a test cut on:

If there's one thing I've learned in the months since finishing my CNC router, it's never cut the good wood first. Still, this is a pretty nice piece. Maybe I'll fret slot it.

More suspense then!

This is the first time I am trying to cut something larger than my machine can do in one pass. There will be index pins involved. There's a lot of steps to doing this on a CNC router. First, you have to make the 3D model; I use Rhino for that. After the model is worked out, you have to convert them into toolpaths. I use MeshCam for 3D stuff, and CamBam for the 2.5D:

Subbed. Incredible work and great generosity to say the least! Starting to wish i got scammed out for thousands of dollars on a custom bass that fell through...

I do find it incredibly ironic that after leaving me, that piece of Cocobolo has traveled thousands of miles to end up on the bed of an XZero router.......

as I sit here wiring one up.

Who'd have thunk it?

Nice. What model? Can't wait to see what you do with it!

Running a test cut on the maple tonight, hopefully. Been craycray around here this week.
