Luthiers of Austin: Measuring Interest for a New Guild

A buddy and myself have approached the folks at Woodcraft in Austin, Texas about hosting quarterly meeting for builders of all levels. They have tentatively agreed. I would like to know if anyone here would be interested in something like that. The Luthiers Interactive of North Texas up in DFW seem to enjoy themselves. Why not us?

I'm actually planning on moving to Austin at the beginning of september and I'd be interested. Also, if you have any suggestions about employmeny as a luthier or woodworker please PM me. Thanks!

I'm working with a Woodcraft here to teach some classes about building. Perhaps we can compare notes.

well I am in Pflugerville...that count?

I am far from what you might consider a luthier really...I am working on my first and second bass right now but I would likely be interested in something like that.

Yep. Their "Tele Home Depot Forum" is really good.

Boy, I wouild love something like this! I am a transplant from Albuquerque, NM (3 years) ago and still lack the kind of contacts I would love to have with other like-minded folks. Certainly I am no luthier though. I have been doing a lot of refinish/refurbish work, especially on Wishbasses, but what I really want to do (as well) is build my own. I also have a special interest in hollow body and semi-hollow body basses (especially vintage) and would love to to learn more about how they are put together, etc. I converted my garage into a small work shop and I spend a lot of time out there and plan to spend even more as my skills and experience expand. ANY contact with other folks doing any of this kind of work would be welcome! How can I help?

Sounds like we are in the same boat as far as experience and shop set up. As this thing gets rolling, I will know more about what help we will need. Thanks for offering.
