I need some of you to contact me. I'm building a bass, but i need someone to put it together, wire the pickups, all that jazz since i don't want to risk it. Please only mail me if you do have experience with electric basses. An example of work you've done would be great to. Thanks!

Located way up north in Lewisville, TX.

There is an MTD Z5 floating around here that he replaced p/ups, electronics, rewired, etc. that looks like a million bucks. Was recently (and still may be) owned by Nashvillebass.
And you get what you pay for. His basses are great! I loved the fit, finish, and look of mine, but not the way it played, so I sold it. Otherwise, I'd still own it.

There are lots of techs around that could do that kind of work -- hey I've done all that myself myself and I'm not even a great tech -- but those techs would never quality as "luthiers". Luthier is a very specific term, that invokes a professional builer of instruments.
Having a true luthier put together a "parts" bass might be overkill and a bit expensive. Oh, it would be a great bass when completed, no doubt, but likely cost more than it's worth.
I'd suggest a really good tech over a luthier for that project.

Why don't you just send him an e-mail and ask? He's a great guy to deal with and overall, pretty responsive.
If you are dead-set on having a try luthier do the work, contact Mike Lull of Lull Guitars. Yes, he's not local, but his turn-around time is very, very good. Prices are fair for his level of service, and shown on the website.
He does great work. I had him work on a high-end custom piece for me and it turned out great.

| | Reads well and plays nice with others... | | Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Southwestern Pennsylvania | | There's also Scotty Coleman in Waco, TX of Redeemer Basses - almost has him make one for me...but then the gigs dried up as the regular job responsibilities and expectations increased.
You can find him in the Luthier's Corner forum on this TalkBass site.
Here's his site: http://redeemerbasses.com/
His prices are outstandingly reasonable for a completely custom-made instrument.

That's kind of a loaded question, isn't it? "Insanely expensive" is a relative term. Compared to a Rogue or a Hondo - yes, but compared to an MTD, Ritter, Alembic, F Bass, Ken Smith, etc. - no.
Try one. It's worth your investment
