Mahogany + Ash body

I want to build myself a guitar at some point.

I was thinking about doing a Les Paul type body that would be half mahogany and half hard ash.

I like the aggressive growl that ash heartwood / Northern ash has, and the darkness and fullness that mahogany has, so I figured I could combine them to get the best of both worlds.

What are your thoughts/opinions on this? I know it's all pretty subjective. I love the sound of a Les Paul, but I also really like the sound of a nice hard ash body. Is combining them a bad idea? Does it just get muddy or quirky? Have you made such a body and can you tell me how you felt about the sound? I think the John Pettruci EB guitar has a body that is hard ash with a mahogany core, and I always thought his sound was cool.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
