making a 5 string bridge cover

so heres my plan, I ma going to buy a standard cheapie jazz bass bridge cover. cut a straight line down the middle and add probaby a 3/8s piece of sheet metal in between the two pieces in order to get the right size to cover the whole bridge. Than MIG weld it back together, grind and polish it smooth than rattle can some chrome paint on it.
