They sell luthier stuff...wood, tools, hardware, etc. They sell basically everything you need to build an instrument. Their prices aren't the best, and their selection of bass hardware is pretty limited. But they sell things that are hard to find elsewhere. | I took a look at LMII. That website is weird. It's laid out almost to where you need to be a luthier to understand it.
I think a bolt-on would be a simple solution to this project. I will still look around for ideas before I go fooling with a Danelectro neck.

Also, where is that section you mentioned about them selling pre-radiused and slotted fingerboards?

| | | To get a pre-radiused and pre-slotted board, you have to add 3 things to your cart. It's not terribly intuitive, but bear with me...
If you want, for example, an ebony fingerboard, first you would go here... http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdpro...ny+Fingerboard
...select what you want, and click the RED part number on the left corresponding to what you're looking for. When you clock the red part number, it adds it to your cart pretty quietly, so you won't necessarily notice it has done anything.
For the radius, you go here... http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdpro...oard+Radiusing
...and choose the radius you want. They only offer 10", 12", 16", and 20". Again, click on the red "part" number to add it to your cart.
For slotting, go here... http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdpro...board+Slotting
...and pick your poison. Click the red part number, and it'll add it to your cart. Then click on "View Cart" at the top of the site, and you should see something like this:

| | | Neck shaping...hmm...the most helpful resource on that when I did it was this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL6-LmYjwe0
Just don't go as fast as he does. And practice on crap scrap wood.
I promise it is exactly as easy as it looks in that video. If I was local to you, I'd invite you to my shop and help you build the neck.
As for inlays...I haven't done anything more complicated than 1/4" dots, so I can't help you there.

I'm thinking that the very first time Gene Simmons handed me that bass with the strings like that I'd have put a wrap of safety wire or similar around the string and bridge. But there are enough pictures there to imply it happened at least a few nights in a row! |

Here are his questions. Any tips?
"What widths do you want at the nut, at the 24th fret? What thickness at the heel not including the fretboard? Honduras or African Mahogany? Please keep in mind that we do not make nor supply the fretboard nor the truss rod. you can purchase these items at stewmac or lmi."

All that hoorah and you don't even get a truss rod or fretboard?
You need a few basics here..........even if you never build a neck, read these TDPRI build challenge threads for 2011 and 2012 LINK. Neck building has been required the last two years. There are over 100 threads these last two years, meaning over 100 necks, a few bass necks among them. These are step by step, in some cases beginners getting tips from others as well. If nothing else, you'll learn the nomenclature and layouts that necks adhere to. It's only woodwork, not magic. Even if you read only the bass builds, you'll learn what this guy is asking you and why.
Just so you know, there is no voodoo mojo to building a neck. I taught my sister how to build one on a bet (which I won btw) and she does good to find her way home from work .
I can understand why this guy does not supply fretboards, and to some extent truss-rods. He has no clue what your going to do with it, and at the end of the day YOU will have to make the measurements to make sure the thing mounts and intonates correctly. It's not just a simple matter of bolting on a neck and it all works out. There are measurements and adjustments you have to make regardless of if make the neck or not. Read those threads so you can approach this with knowledge, not guessing. Knowledge is power, more is better

Dave | You're right.
Thus why I'm ordering a pre-radiused and slotted fretboard from LMI. From there, I will ship it to him, so he can build the neck and body joint around the fretboard.
It takes guess work out of it.
Te neck is rough cut, so it still requires sanding and finishing on my part.
I will check out your thread.
