Minwax stain under a wipe-on poly?

has anyone ever used a minwax tint (stain) ie: woodfinish or other, under a wipe-on poly? how did it work and what did u use? i want to find a way to tint (amber) a neck then finish it with gel poly or wipe-on poly. thanks TEd

I was wanting to do the same thing...
I bought some of the minwax gel stain, and tried to wipe it into a mighty might neck I bought for my bass...
It appears as though the neck was sprayed with a light coat of poly and would not accept the stain...
Make sure that your neck is "unfinished", before you decide to wipe in the stain...
Check to make sure that the stain is cooperative with the minwax poly...

read the back of the can, if the stain says it can be finished with Polyurethane, then you will be just fine. I have used Poly shades as a stain/sealer for furniture, but never on an instrument, as I am still lost in Lacquer Land for all my instruments. best of luck
