Question MM pickup route depth: help!

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm using a Mighty Mite MM pickup for a custom build. I just routed the pickup cavity to a depth of 0.725 inches, and when I drop in the pickup without the included foam pads, the top of the pole pieces is the same height as the top of my unfretted fingerboard.

I'm guessing that this isn't deep enough, as there's no room for adjustment, and I'm assuming that I want that foam in there between the pickup and the body. Can someone set me straight?

You should put the pickup to obtain a 2mm distance between the string and the pickup poles (when you press on the last fret).
I usually route 1.5-2cm for pickups.

I think you will be fine. I put a Mighty Mite MM into a custom build I did, with the route at .750(3/4"). Still have plenty of adjustment with the foam pad underneath after the set up.
