Modifying back of neck?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a Squier Active 5 string (my first foray into 5 stringers). While the neck is thin enough front to back, it's still kind of wide for my hands. Would it be possible to sand down some of the wood on the G string side of the neck to make more of an asymmetrical profile, or would this compromise the neck in some way?

ick...

think about your nut & bridge... if you narrow the neck, you'll have to tweak these too...

But the structure of the neck won't be an issue, I don't think - the truss is in the middle... But heck - this is just a squier - fire up that belt sander and go wild! Let us know how it goes!

I don't want to make the width thinner, I want to sand down the back of the neck on the G string side, thus making an asymmetrical profile.

I have always wondered about doing that myself, also wondered about working down the E side instead .....for "my" hand".....

I wouldn't do this with an expensive neck, not for the first time anyway.

I think its worth trying if you are comfortable with it.
