Hey TB,
I recently bought some Western maple to use for necks on a few projects I have going. I live in the San Juan Islands in Washington. I got a Moisture meter and the wood came in at about 15%. My initial thought was "well not this year", but I checked a bunch of wood that has been in the shop I am working in for years and years and most of it came in at 12-13% MC. I have been reading about how the wood will acclimate to you area and that is the MC that you should work with if the bass is going to stay in that area.
Here are my questions: Are there any West Coast builders that can tell me if this is a bad idea? Is there a resource for what is normal for MC in woods in certain areas? How much difference will 2% MC make if the normal is around 13%? Can I work this wood now without it freaking out?
Thanks,
Coffee
