I have seen templates for 4 string basses. Here is my question, when building a 5,6 string bass; does the body width change too or just the neck?

I think in most cases, just the neck. Think about 10+ string basses...... Body would be HUGE, if compared with the neck width.

I tend to make my 5 and 6 string basses a bit larger to avoid neck dive and also to be more balanced looking

just a personal thing, the body on my sx 5 jazz compared tp my fender 4 string jazz and I cant stand it. It just makes it more difficult to switch between the two.

Haven't you seen the wide variety of body sizes of the plain ol' 4 string basses out there? From big jumbo hollowbodies to Steinbergers that have almost no body? Why would an extra string or two have anything to do with body size?

mostly just the neck, some might widen a bit, and change some stuff, but not a whole lot
