More than one trussrod... How does that work?

I've seen quite a few high-end basses as well as some 12-string basses that have two truss rods...

I'm puzzled as to how one might adjust the relief on such a setup without risking to turn the neck into a twisted and warped mess...

Can someone enlighten me? There's a 12-string bass in my near future and I'd like to at least understand it...

i do lots of service an repair work... it takes a bit of skill and know how to set a multi truss rod instrument... but i don't find any benefits... neck with one truss rod work just fine and it doesn't matter how many strings you put on the neck... if the neck is constructed correctly you can use only one truss rod with good results!!!

I was doing some service on my recently defretted 6 string, and I noticed one of the truss rods wasnt tightened at all.. Does it even serve a purpose? But now I got the neck the way I want and it's all good.

Well I have dual rods in my Dean Edge 6 string and through a little searching a while back I found that to get the lowest action possible you need a little bit more relief on the bass(or Low B) side of the neck. The dual rods make dialing this in a little easier. Multiple rod basses shouldn't be too much of a problem if you handle them like any single rod bass. . . Adjust very slowly.
