Ok, I have finished two basses now and I am going to do what I wanted to do the first time but realized that it wasn't a good idea at that time. I am going to carve a design into the body and headplate of the bass.
Details of the build:
35" scale 5-string fretted
All hardware black
Body and Neck : Black Walnut
Fingerboard: Gaboon Ebony
Pickups: Nordstrand DC wired in series
Preamp: Aguilar OBP-3
Bridge: Hipshot A-style
Tuners: Gotoh GB7
I am planning on trying my hand at wood pickup covers and a cover over the bridge. This is so that the design is unbroken throughout the body. I am also planning on Walnut knobs.
Here are some pics showing the walnut and ebony as well as the design of the body. Let me know what you think, criticism is appreciated. |

| | | | Yes, I plan on carving the whole thing. Actually, that is what I was good at and most interested in until I built my first bass. Now I am totally hooked. The only thing it will take is time and once I get carving I don't stop so it will be fun. I just have to take it step by step though and do the first things first and not get ahead of myself. LOL |

That's some very light colored walnut you have there.
Are you going to have enough wood in a good place on the bass-side "horn" to put a strap lug and its screw?

| | | | Ok, More progress. In fact this bass is almost finished. I will be installing the preamp within the next few days which will allow me to have a finished product. Thought I would post a few pics of the bass as it is now. |

| | | | Thanks all, it was fun. I think the next one will have more carving on it. Deeper reliefs. Just have to figure out which wood would work best. Gonna have to do some trial carving on scraps and see what works. Would like to make the next one a lighter wood. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
