Aloha,
Well, unless you enjoy the screeching 9000Hz of a machine, you must listen to some music when you work right? We are building Musical instruments after all. How many of you get the chance to see a Bassist play a instrument you built on stage? or on CD? There is this one particular song that I couldnt stop listening to while building my first, 'Israel Vibration - On Borrowed Time' and now everytime I hear it, it reminds me of my Bass ! so what about you... what do you listen to when you build? |

Radio is still relatively good ...I wonder how long before satellite kills it.

I can do dumb stuff yeah, hand sanding and whatnot, but not anything that requires any precision or math, or requires my attention to keep all my digits...no way.
It's a curse! |

Working at Roberto-Venn, I'm around 30 students and a bunch of other instructors all day. Students aren't allowed to have headphones (for safety reason), or stereos... because you can imagine that would get out of hand very quickly. The instructors can play music at a low volume but I haven't... a couple days I borrowed a fellow instructors little iPod player, but even then I had it really low because a COUPLE of the instructors do not like even instructors playing music... I just don't want to bother anyone.
I very much look forward to having my own shop, first off because I tend to work best alone, and I'll be able to play as much music as I want! While working in the state park I'd either be alone in the shop or with my good buddy and we always had the radio on, it made it much more enjoyable for me. I'll listen to ANYTHING, but we mostly listened to classic rock and I'd put on jazz by myself.

I have, however, build other things in the garage (failed armour attempts and all sorts of odds and ends XP), and I put whatever I have running around in my head. I think the last CD I played while working was Garmarna. |

a Yoko Ono album.
Nothing sounds better blended with Yoko's voice than the whir
of a thickness planer. |

there's just something nice and organic about using a spokeshave/scraper on a neck while hearing the outside wildlife go about their activities. it is a total contrast to my daily software consulting activities, and the absolute chaos that accompanies large scale projects with aggressive schedules
all the best,

Most of my family lives in Rockland and my Grandpa and Uncle have a chiropractic office in Yonkers. Small world!
I might need some music at work today... it's been a long week.

There's too much noise happening in my workshop (read: basement) to actually listen to music. |

| I might need services from your relatives. My week has been far worse than yours. Trust me.

I'll typically play both records from the STONES' Exile on Main St. album over and over these days. I can't get enough of that album. I still enjoy hunting for record albums in the stores. , and there's just something about the PHONO sound... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
