Musicman copy upgrade

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi , how are yas ? Im new to Bass and new to the site , ive been a drummer for 15 years and recntly realised that bass has got it all ! I was looking for some advice for how to upgrade my bass .I have a VINTAGE EST96 ( musicman copy ). It has 3 band active eq plus volume so 4 control knobs in total . It has wilkinson wsm 4 humbucker at the moment .

My 3 questions are :

1)I would like to be able to switch the guitar between active and passive using a push / pull pot with one of the existing tone knobs .
possible ?

2)I would like to be able to split or tap the coil , also with a ush / pull pot on an existing control knob .
possible ?

3) Would I need to upgrade the tone circuit / pre amp etc along with all the above ?

I saw there's a bartolini humbucker that can be taped but it mentioned upgrading the tone circuits .

Thanks for your time , if my terminology is off , its cos im a drummer new to bass !
Cheers - Gav

Hey Gav(in)...tone circuit to act/pas- NO. Not on the existing circuit without adding pot mods, there are many A/Pas circuits out there from Korean to East that will allow this and fit your plate, price range is the determining factor. Switching coils on the Wilky? Yes, but you must find a push pull pot compatible with your eq(not too difficult or expensive). The Bart will probably work with your tone circuit, without incident, but check the Bartolini site for their reccommendations and Why? This will help you to not waste your money on a part, and good luck with it.
