Musicman's neck finish?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone know what's the 'secret ingredients' used to finish those nice musicman guitars and basses necks'? Will bees wax finish give the same result?

I love the feel of it, although it will be dirty looking after some time...

If anyone knows, please let me know... Thanks

I think that they use True Oil, a blend of linseed oil and varnish that's used on gunstocks. It's not wax alone. If it's not True Oil it's something similar. I don't think there's any secret ingredient in it. That's marketing hype.

It does look and feel good though.

I wouldn't use wax alone on a bass neck.

6 or 8 really light coats of Tru-Oil rubbed in with a soft cloth over a few days, cure for a week, rub down lightly with fine wire wool then rub in some beeswax or carnauba for a silky finish. (Thats my recommendation, I don't know if Musicman do this)

sounds nice and slicky... Thanks for the idea... I also have a cellist friend whose a string instrument luthier, I might ask him to finish the neck like on the string instruments' neck...
