I don't think that will work.

I'm not 100% sure but changing necks to necks with different scale doesn't really work does it?

Thanks PW. I imagine it's an intonation thing...moving the bridge etc..
It's just that I saw a nice '70s Mustang neck on Ebay, going cheap...very soon.

intonation will be your biggest problem.
you should be alright if you move your bridge, but that'll probably mess with pickup position/pole alignment.

Measure the distance between the end of the fretboard and the bridge saddles on a mustang. If it was the same or very close to a jazz bass, then you wouldn't have intonation issues. If it's different though, you'd need to compensate somehow. I have no idea how the neck pockets compare.

Some neck pocket adjustments may be needed. You'll have to have the new neck and old bass together to work them out first. You will have to move the bridge to accommodate the changed scale. Perhaps not too much, but a bit. The amount you have to move it will impact the pickup locations, as they will be moved slightly out of their associated sweet spots when paired with a full scale neck. Other than that, its not a terribly difficult swap.

Sounds like a good idea at first until you have to get out the drill..........

I like the idea of getting a Mustang neck and building a custom body to fit.
