My Bart 56 pickups aren't wide enough need help

Sign in to disble this ad
I am building a 6 the spacing at the bridge pickup is 93mm and the "B" string is not as loud as the others. I don't think there is enough pickup under the string. What I would like to know is are there any longer pickups made with the same or wider width so all I have to do is make the routes longer to fit them. Thanks

post a pic please, barts usually get pretty close to the edge, but their website has information about the max string spread recommended for each pickup model. Plus you can test that with any magnetically soft metal part to see how the magnetic pull is under that string as related to the others.

Here is a photo. The site says it should handle 95mm.

iirc, you're supposed to be at least .250 from the edge of the screw hole.

Have you tried moving the string further from the edge (lower the saddle and push the string sideways on the saddle) to make sure there isn't something causing it?

Oh yeah, which model exactly are the pup's you have in there? I think the xxm56 handle 100mm.

From barts site

"M5 soapbar xxM56C covers 72 to 95mm"

I haven't tried moving the string sidewaysyet. The customer wanted the wide spacing.

the bridge position looks like the string spread is too wide for the pickup, I suspect it should sound ok on the neck pickup.

You do have the xx model, yes? The default is generally not the xx although TJ is usually good about making sure you are getting the pickup you need.

Bartolini is kind of frustrating that way. Who makes a 72mm 6 string? That would be 14mm, most bridges do not even go that narrow.

The G6 goes up to 100mm, and they are also much less expensive. In the future I would think about using those and be done with spacing problems. I think the xxP46 might also go up to 100.

That's verging on guitar spacing esp for some fingerstyle players. A lot of 5- and 6-string bass pickups find good use as 7+ string guitar pups.
