Wow. I'm so going to do this.
I have a couple nice pieces of white ash (4/4) in the basement, just begging to be made into instruments. One is probably going to the guitarist for his homebrew project, but the other one is going to be a Ric. In a Fender body. Electronic duplicate of a nice old 4003 or something, Ric pups, Ric bridge, Ric-O-sound, etc. I'll slap a half inch of something nice on the ash, make a tele-bass style neck with black inlay and binding. Dayum. It's going to OWN.

Sorry old rics and new rics are all made of maple, not ash. If you put ric pickups on it it will sound more like a rick "laredo".

Yes of course, I considered making a neck-through naple bass, but then I'd have to make a fourth bass out of my piece of ash. I think it will still have a quite Ric-like sound, and it may be even punchier. The neck will be maple, and I'll have a maple top on the ash, so the tone will be a bit unique but still quite Ric. I hope.
