My BIG Christmas present.....

I bought the hardwoods cutoff pile from a local lumber mill for $200. The wheels are turning in my head like never before.

These pics are of what was left after giving away an almost equal amount of Poplar.

Tons of Black Walnut, Mahogany and Red Cedar. I've found a 10' long 10" wide 4/4 piece of Alder, a 10' long 16" wide piece of 3/4 Red Oak, several pieces of Birdseye and Hard Maple and a few good body wing sized pieces of 8/4 Jatoba. I gave away a metric F'ton of Poplar only keeping ~100 bdft for general use.

It was really like a toy store shopping spree when I got it. I was looking through the hardwoods building and noticed 4-5 pallets stacked waist high with odd lots of wood. When I asked, the guy told me they were cut offs and he would let them go for $200 per pallet. I ran up front and paid, grabbed my truck and pulled around to the building and loaded up the pallet I wanted.

When I went to tell the guy I was done and taking off, he told me that I must have misunderstood. The price was $200 for ALL of the pallets! After I got past the concern over where I was going to store it, I started loading again and 3 trips later I had it all home.

That's great. Lucky you! Can't wait to build my first electric bass.

Spent some time this evening with the bandsaw and planer cleaning up some of the roughcut stuff. Found a nice piece of 8/4 Cherry (bottom) and some awesome Birdseye Maple(top).
