My body and neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Here is my 1st body and neck.. the body is pine wood. (I think…home depot) the neck is maple and oak.. I’ll be doing a few of these..until I feel ready for the “real wood”….. also I think I need to get 1 inch mdf board.. 1/4 is not workin out as good as I thought i would..what size do I need to get the job done?... mdf board?

Looks good - did you intentionally reverse the P route?

What are you using the MDF for? I use 1/2" MDF for body templates with no troubles.

first off: excellent job on your first efforts

secondly: four thumbs-up to you for building your skills on inexpensive woods until you feel confident to utilize something more expensive and/or exotic!!!! it's the approach I recommend to those who have never built a bass before, and you get to learn many lessons without the need to scrap some expensive wood due to basic beginner form/fit/function/tolerance type of mistakes

I've used 1/2" MDF for templates, but I now prefer to use cabinet grade solid core plywood for all the templates I make by hand (when I don't send a CAD file out for a CNC made template that is)

all the best,

R
