My Cherry Bass Build - Almost complete! *With new pics!*

Sign in to disble this ad
Here she is! Its a work in progress, my 1st instrument build. Made a few mistakes along the way, but I won't be pointing those out. Hope you like it.

Some random details:

I found the piece of wood at a wood crafting fair in pennsylvania, picked it up for $10. And I found the extra armrest piece at a thrift store ($2.50 - it was a folk-art thing with two hairy googly-eyed critters sticking out of it), it just happened to be cherry as well. Wont match perfect, but good enough for me.

Took about 40 hours time + the time i've spent on the armrest.

Hipshot bridge, Bassline pickups, and a moses graphite neck I found on ebay for about $270 or something. All-in-all I've got about $450-500 in the beast.

Just straight wired the pickups to the input, was having some trouble with the pots I ordered. The knobs aren't sanded and oiled yet, but they're kinda cool and low profile.

Used "tried and true" oil and various sand papers with the finish.

She sounds sweet and the neck plays awesome, the body needed an armrest and hopefully that works out too.

Any thoughts/questions or goddamn shes an ugly beasts, I want to hear them! Thanks!

Very different. Good work getting it all together.

And sorry, but my odd sense of humour said this....

Cool, glad you all like it. The pictures don't really do it justice. Time to do some dremel work on that vestigial limb!

It's NOT a rumor!

UPDATE: I've attached the armrest! Just glued it on, no wood pegs or screws. Seems to be holding.

P.S. - No more joking around. Or I'll send Sasquatch after you...

Bass Battle of the Century! Mothman vs. Elephantman bass

But in all seriousness, that is on seriously cool bass, I've always want to do a driftwood bass.

No, it'd have to be Mothman vs. Zatarra!

LV: "We shall call him... Zatarra."
ED: "Sound fearsome."
LV: "It means 'driftwood'."

Jeez...$10 for that lumpy bit of wood?!?! Sheesh, think you were ripped off a bit...sorry man it's kinda cool how you've actually MANAGED to find a use for it, but I'd have got a better/bigger piece of wood myself

Then I take it upon myself to make this Zatarra and to finally take down the Mothman bass once and for all, gotta go start combing beaches...

I love this bass. It's great to see someone step outside the norm. Keep it up, the more people you offend, the more you are being an original.
