My designs (this is what happens during school)

Well, since there were a bunch of others putting up their designs, I figured why shouldn't I?

So here we go, I apologize for the quality, I'll scan them later when I have time.

All of these drawings are to scale, so they will all be turned into templates later on if I decided that I like them enough (feel free to saw which one you like the best, I love other people's opinions)

Criticism, help, and carrots as always are welcome! I also enjoy the occasional "I like that one" as well

Personally I see no practical use in having the body lean forward (i.e to the right), since ergonomically speaking, that makes for a bad design. The basses that I've played, that are shaped like that, and in general have small bodies, leave very little forearm support for your right arm, which tires you out very fast, sitting down or standing up. Something I would personally avoid.
Otherwise, they look like solid designs.

3 and 12 are cool, 7 and 11 looks a bit ACG-esque, neato!

heh, I guess people really do like them

The singlecut hollowbody was inspired by drozd, but it's going to be around 3 1/2" thick, and fully routed out, so it'll be a little more acoustic-like than the drozd.

#4 was one I drew a while ago, and out friend JSP decided to try out the design on one of his basses (and it's coming out great!)

1 and 3 are basically the same, and will become my main fretted and fretless one of these days.

5, 10 and 13 are my attempts to re-do older style basses, and I think the 3 of them came out great. I would love to make each of them and have them be as retro as possible, gotta love that style.

Some of these were just 30 minute sketches, and some of them were a few periods worth of drawing (not including shading and what not). There are still plenty in there that need work, just gotta figure out what I want to do.

please excuse my shoddy shading and coloring of the basses, some I think turned out ok, but some just didn't turn out how I wanted, and it wasn't worth me erasing to fix it.

Thanks guys

Greg

cool ideas but there are a couple of things i would change. 1 and 3 both need revison i think. The lower line is really curvy and doesnt allow for much room for you knee if you're sitting down. also try to keep where the bass sits on your knee (the balancing point) somewhere around the 24th fret. id say try to make the bottoms more like #8 but with a longer lower horn so it doesn't dig into your leg. On the single cuts watch out for balance issues too. The top half on most of them is way to big for the lower half. Cool ideas though man.

I have the prototype body built for 1 and 3, and the lower curve is amazing. It fits on my knee perfectly, but I can see where you're coming from.

Thanks man, preciate the help

Greg

If one and three sit well on your knee, you must have pretty dainty legs!

lol, I'm sure I am talking to todd way too much (because he gave me his number and has now found out the hard way that doing that was not a good idea)

My legs aren't dainty, I'm 260 pounds and they gotta carry me around!

Maybe everyone is just used to having lower curves that are much larger than the knee, that a smaller one looks too small. Also, none of these designs are final, most are just ideas.

Greg

cool design. i really like the way that looks with that crazy long horn kinda thing. the only thing that makes me hesitant about it is that it might be easy to break off if the thing falls. i don't know that much so i might be wrong- so get some other opinons
