My first Project bass P/J or P

Ok good people,

I´m from Portugal (Sad day in Soccer) 33 years old

Please advice me about this choose for a neck-thru design

I would like to have a warm and full and sharp (definition) sound.

Wood:

Mahogany ; Ash

NECK
Mahogany and Ash

FRETBOARD
Ebony from Madagascar

BODY

Sandwich of Mahogany and Ash

Neck configuration:

Configuration 7 ply

20mm Ash
5mm Mahogany
10mm Ash
5mm Mahogany
10mm Ash
5mm Mahogany
20mm Ash

Your electronics will determine the "full and Sharp" sound the you crave. Tone is not a building material.

Your wood choices are almost too aspirational for your first build.

Cool - love the ash! You go right ahead and prove Mikeyswood wrong, dude!

Though he's right about electronics contributing more to tone than wood. What are you planning for pickups?

What's your finish going to be?

Edit: Oops, didn't read your subject. "Warm and full" sounds like a P to me, but "Warm and full and sharp" will almost certainly require the J as well.

Only four strings, about fret or fretless.

It will depend if the sound in fretless please me stay if not i will put same wire...

Sweet job so far. Congrats! I'm a P fan, but if you want that extra bite/high end, go for the P/J. You can always roll off the J if you don't need it, but cannot add it if it's not there.

With Mahogany, you'll get lotsa warmth but not much "Sharp"...

that's just been my experience.

I'd also skip the PJ thing and go with soapbars for that body layout. Maybe get the type of p'ups you might use to replace T-bird p'ups - nice & bright, to compensate for the wood...
