My first "regular" bass build

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been wondering why I haven't seen any beatlebass builds.
Them things are sunnybeeches!

But here it is all piled together.

Beatle Bass
Ash top
pine back
maple neck
ash semi-scroll headstock
2 string
Walnut fretboard

Hey- I give the customer what he wants .....

No mag pups. Piezo under the bridge

Glued up and drying now. Do the fretboard and bridge and tuners tomorrow.
May even be playing it, then tear it down to stain/finish.

A definite change of pace from my cigar box stuff.
Matt

I've been wanting to build a solid viola bass, but I didn't know how it would look as a flat, solidbody... I will be watching this.

When I eventually build myself a fretless guitar, it'll be a viola style.

I also want to build myself a bass (fretted) to specs of the Beatle bass.

Not much work done on it today other than some planing and sanding for like a thousand hours .... with several more to go.
I messed up tho' ... I forgot to get the fretboard on before gluing the wings on the body, so, I went to another project ... got it done ( in other words " money is coming in tomorrow"). And I'll work on it while rotating around the Lap diddly bow I'm working on.
Street Festival season is approaching and I gotta get inventory built.

btw- It is a solid body, but it's actually a few inches shorter that a regular Beatle bass ..... Strings will be through the body instead of using a trapeze thingy.
