here's a wenge/bloodwood/maple neck through: claro walnut burl faceplate, macassar ebony f-board. Nordy 59j neck pickup and humbucker bridge pickup in wood shells: matching wood knobs, core and back are black walnut. I'm pretty happy with it... probably on my top 3 list of favorite builds... and my first foray into flat radius fingerboards (using banjo frets)

I have ONE more set of this amazing burl that I'm starting to think about building up.....still, after all these years, my favorite part: birthing a new instrument. The fact that the client(who became a friend) loves it is icing on the cake!

Looks great, Karl. You have any close pics of the body? That bridge looks really interesting. And it looks like you must have had to be pretty careful to keep its carriage bolts away from the output jack.

Love the neck. The jack is placed in no very usual place.

here's a closer picture of the front: The bridge was milled by me from 6061 aluminum and use saddles from a hipshot triple lockdown individual bridges... (thanks Jason at Hipshot) ....

I milled it, then did LOTS of hand work to get it very sculpted looking. I also made the knobs.

thanks: It's my home brew of tung oil and polyurethane, hand-rubbed coat after coat until the bass gets the patina of a well used hand tool......

As for the flat fingerboard, I am someone who adapts quickly to nearly anything. When I first strung it up, it felt a bit foreign to me. but after I did the setup and got the whole action comfy, it felt very natural.

Another nice feature of a flat fingerboard is that there is no arch of the strings to compensate for with the pickups. flat pickup, flat fingerboard.....

and to Nick: not much to see in my little basement shop at least right now: I will have somewhere between 4-6 basses in various stages of completion by mid march... give me a buzz (I'm in Harwich and in the phone book) and I can have you drop by then.
