My new P(arts)-bass...

Sign in to disble this ad
Fender '09 MIM Jazz neck, Fender '09 MIM Precision body, All-Parts pickguard, SD 1/4 pounder, Hipshot HB-7's from Best Bass Gear, all-Fender hardware and US electronics from Darren Riley, bone nut and pro set-up by Ed Clark.

Plenty of thump for the Motown I'm playing lately, but I wish it had a little more Jazz-bass "growl". The pup was a gift from a friend, but I may be looking to change it out. OK for now. The bass looks great (JMHO-LOL), and also plays great due to the set-up, I guess.

Awsome bass! And a plug for Darren Riley. He's a great guy to deal with and does a KILLER set up job!

Mr. Riley is a great guy to deal with (I'm finished finding a parts supplier - he's "the one"), but the set-up was done by Ed Clark here on the island.

Nice playing bass too...

Thanks two fingers and rustynuts.
I think I have the action at just the perfect spot now, after some time (and trial and error). This bass reminds me a lot of my Sterling in how it plays, although not in sound. I adjusted the saddles and pickup to get a little more low-end, but in doing that I also picked up some more highs, making the .047 mf tone control more useful. I'm making a string change to a TI PowerBass .047 - .107 (medium light) set. I hope to achieve more balance across the fret-board, although even with the D'addario ground wounds it's smoother than my Classic '60's Jazz bass with CS '60's pups. I really like the sound and feel of the TI's on my Sterling. I also have to do a better job of EQ'ing the bass, compressor and amp. This is still fun!
