You meant a 24 fret neck, right?

p.s.

You should try to find a Steinberger XP-2 for these projects! Really nice graphite bolt-on neck, and the bridges are just perfect, quite a bit nicer than the knock-off's, (even the Steiney licenced ones and the Spirit bridges.)

Is the string spacing at the bridge on a Hohner a bit narrow like a Steinberger (17mm), or is it the standard 3/4" (19mm)?

My Latest Project: Behold the "Rickenberger" :D
I jump on what's cheap at the moment.

Not sure but I'll check it out.

Oh yeah! The Rickenberger! Love that build, I never saw the completed bass until just now. That is soooo cool! Love that paint job!

The SteinRay is gonna be very cool also!

Have you given any thought to a "Thunder-berger" build maybe? Perhaps the lack of a headstock would balance it much better!

Or better yet, you should just do a headless version of every great distinctive shaped bass ever!

Most of the routing and shaping completed this weekend. I went with a channel for the PUPs so I could experiment with placement simply by altering the pickguard.

Thanks! I was planning on a trans-black as the grain is awesome on this piece of ash, but I have so many gaffes to fill due to my inexperience with the router that it needs to be a solid finish. I am leaning towards another flip-flop.

Good call on the "trough" pickup channel. Should prove interesting.

That looks really cool.

My last build was a Musicman style bass to use a Westone neck I had lying around. It resulted in the "WestRay"

I mixed up the look of the four string Stingray with the Pickgaurd design of the 5 string Stingray. That was admittedly done out of lazyness: I didn't want to look around for that hard to find metal control plate. It has a Kent Armstrong pickup that's currently passive but even without a pre-amp, it already has that typically "Stingray" hi-fi toppy sound.

I cut and shaped all the plastic the other day and after some wood epoxy came to the rescue, I could not be happier with how this is turning out.

That JB Weld epoxy is very easy to work with. It really bonds to the wood and dries hard as a rock. I even filled a gap on the left side of the neck pocket. I think I will re-do the electronics cavity as I used standard wood putty and it is way too soft.

So that's pickguard #1 for two MMs. Are you planning a pickguard #2 for one MM? Or maybe even #3 for a J+MM? The third one isn't Stingray kosher, I know, but it'd work as well and it'd work magnificently.

They are a hassle to make from scratch, but yes, that is the plan. And with EMG's solderless systems, it should be a SNAP to swap things up.

WANT! That's amazing! I'd definitely rock that.

So, will this become a full series? Non-reverse Thunderberger?
EB-O-Berger? Buzzardberger? El-two-kay-berger?

I love me some headless bass (although the double ball-end strings are a beast to find).
