My P Bass (Ibanez Blazer) Re-fin

Sign in to disble this ad
I picked up a pretty knackered Ibanez Blazer second hand pretty cheap a few years ago.

A friend of mine is getting to be a pretty good Luthier, and is now refinishing my bass for me .

So far, it is getting a birdseye maple veneer on the head and body, and an amber burst finish, and all the faults sorted out.

The original bass was a solid ash body, maple neck with maple board.

New electronics still to be decided, suggestions welcome.

Now what you all really want, the pics of the progress so far:

The Neck Colour Test (don't mind the Ric Copy he's making)

Looking good so far, I really like the color so far.

Can we see the Ric clone too?

Right, I'm registered now. Here's my build for the Ric, although the state you can see it in now (above) is halfway through a raising-the-fretboard-cos-I-made-it-too-low mod (which is getting instructable'd too).

Probably not going to go for a pickguard, it'd seem a shame to cover up all that wood I'd just pasted on for its look. Just a Musicman style control plate in chrome to go with the bridge. Might even convert it to a string-through config too.

There's the neck painted. Just needs a clear coat or three. Ignore the wonky machine head. Haven't actually screwed them in yet.

Quick placing just to get a look at it, scratchplate/bridge/pickups are all being changed. In fact, no scratchplate, just a control plate.

Unfortunately those lines are getting more and more pronounced (visually, not physically) with every gloss coat I put on. I hate veneer.

Bass looks great. Are the original pickups working? Will you be selling them?
Thanks
