My Second Build - 6 string "Wizzard bass"

Cool this is gonna be my second build.
The first insn't even finished, but I want to keep going, instead off waiting for a trusrod for my other build, kinda stuck there.
This build will always be behind the other, cause the first build is where I try out things and learn.
So I started sawing for the second bass, which wiil be a 6 stringer, I think, could also be 5 or 7.
We''ll see, how wide the neck I'm glueing right now will end up to be.
Not gonna saw away anything, just ad a string or 2.
The design for the bass will be the same as the lower wing from my other build, only there it's a single cut, I want one with both wings the same, I like that wing alot.
Reminds me of a SG.
So here we go, hahahah LMAO, I'm loving this.
The design and the piece of wood I am gonna use for a top, it's sapupira, I think(99% sure).

The rest of the piece, wanned to make neck laminates from it but liked the grain so much, I make it a top.


This piece of PH might go on the back of the top.
Not sure if sonicly right.


This is the beginning for a neck, 2 pieces of PH and one piece of left over sapupira, it's all wood for flooring I've got, so those small pieces are the leftover from the grooves that are sawn away.

Should be cool! Do you think that it might have neck dive though?

I realy don't know, it could easely be.
But I play an Gibson SG longscale, so I'm used to that.
The body won't be light, I think, so that may act as a counterweight maybe.
The neck laminates are Jatoba, by the way, said it was sapupira in the first post, but it's not.
Gonna be a 7 piece neck, 4 PH and 3 jatoba.
The glueing I do in steps, first 3 and then 2 laminates at the time, I hope that will save me a lot of sanding time, I find uit very hard to keep the laminates lined up on the sides.
This way I have more controle, only 2 sliding surfaces, instead of 6.

Mmmmm,... the neckdive thing, I have been thinking about alot.
You're right LGT, I was like "warwick has a small body so why can't I"?
BUT,... warwick has a way longer upperhorn at which the strap is connected.
Without that long horn, being a 6-er with a small body will go headfirst down.
You made me rethink my whole design.
Thanks, I could have wound up with a bass which would have been impossible to play on stage for more than 15 minutes.
Not that I'm on stage that much..

Made a body from walnut (I think it is).
Looks way better than that crap Merbau stuff,
This looks like a cool bass.



These are by the way tose 30+ pieces of different woods.

Well, 4 of those will make a body.
Being creative, does not only aply to building...
Buying wood can also be done creativly....
I've searched hundreds off ads for secondhand woods or leftovers, and found some flooringplanks, for 100 euro's, purple heart, yellow heart, walnut sapupira and jatoba.
Those 30+ different woods where 50 euro's.
I have wood to build me 15 basses from the most exclusive and exotic woods I can dream off.
I don't want to start the build for a 3th bass, but the idea is already there, a 20 kinds of wood bass, all small laminates from different kinds of wood.
In fact I´m a lil hooked on looking for cheap "nice"woods, it's out there, don't get ripped of buy your local lumbersuplier.
In fact, I found some zebrano, 60x22x5 Cm. ,15 euro's for a piece, I'm gonna get me some.
2 off those are 1 great body.
And I found some olivewood, 2 euro's per piece.
4 of them make's for 1 great top, there 1 cm thick..

In the process of making a new body for this bass.
I found this nice looking piece of birdseye bubinga in my "new found" stash of wood.
I'm pretty sure it's bubinga, it looks the same as my warwick and it even feels the same when I stroke it, it's silky smooth.
I glueed them on top of 1 piece purple heart and 1 piece of yellow heart.
Not sure which sides will be the top, maybe I'll compromise and just flip 1 wing, so that I have 1 birdseye wing and 1 PH/YH wing on the front and the other way around on the back.
We'll see what looks best.

It will be a single cut...that I do know.

I have been sawing a wing with my new Jigsaw a Bosch GST100, that thing races compared to my old one.
It takes .... welll 20 seconds, what wood have taken me half an hour with the old one ( no kidding, I've watched the clock).




This is the problem when you work wit flooring planks.


I have to work around that somehow.
Them grooves....
Those things only challange my creativity and I think I know how to make them work.
If I wood just plain them off, the bass wood be about an inch thick.
It is not too thin,.. but first I'll try something else.

You could do filler strips with a darker wood, that would look good....
