Greetings All,
Here begins a new design of mine called the "N" Bass. It is a mutual concept of mine and the person it is being made for. The body will be Black Walnut/Purpleheart/Black Walnut, Bubinga neck with Striped Ebony fretboard. I will post my updates as I complete them. Enjoy the show.....Chaz[ Attachment 49387

Now I have to heat the shop up so as not to freeze the glue!! Chaz

Well here is the body blank, I tried a 3 peice lam for the top and it did not work out, during the routing process I had several blowouts due to the Black Walnut peices that I was using had a lot of figure in them and I think were some part of a knot structure. After comming out of the fetal position from underneath the work bench, I came up with this top. It has the clear wood that is closer to the bark and the dark wood that is near to the heart, It really sets off the purpleheart between the lams of Black Walnut. This a rough shape and in the first stages of shaping and sanding. FedEx Will have my fretboard in tomorrow and will put that on the site as I get it. Chaz

I will continue to post progress as I hit the milestones, My appoliges. Thank you for the kind words and yes I tip my hat to Mr. Thompson, he is one of my insperations as is Jens Ritter and MANY others out there and on this site. I have re-attached the photo of the Bubinga and the Purpleheart. The Bubinga will be the neck and the Purpleheart was lamed in between the Black Walnut.
Due to the road and weather conditions here in Indiana, FexEx did not arrive today so I will have to wait till tomorrow to get the fretboard in. Chaz

Well thanks to the use of a kerosene heater, life has been good in the shop, here is a shot of the scroll work done today, I have the body sanded down to 100 grit for now and I am starting on the neck as soon as the head stock is approved or not, if it is I will attach it also. Thanks...chaz

Sorry for the delay in posting, Here is the neck and fretboard work in the rough and a shot of how the headstock wiil eventually look. I had a bad experience with a Craftsman router bit this morning for the truss rod, seems the Bubinga was a little too much for it. Scored a Vermomt American bit and all was well again. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, they seem kind of wavy for some reason. Chaz

The bass was delivered to the owner this morning and so far the response has been good. I hope he enjoys it as much as I enjoyed making it!! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
