Naked maple or not??

Sign in to disble this ad
I have this oldish Warwick streamer mostly maple with the exception of a few laminates .
The bass is finished with a clear varnish that I'm contemplating on removing , and just having an oiled finish / perhaps even a colored oil refin.
The bass looks kind of 'dull' at the moment (the pic doesn't really show the dullness due to the flash / in fact the bass looks ok in the pic).

Any suggestions would be helpful / even if it's to say that I'm out of my mind ....

The maple will turn dull and brown fairly quickly if you don't put a hard finish on it... maple is like a dirt MAGNET. lol

That having been said, if you wax it, it shoudl be OK

If that were my bass, I'd agree with Bassed. Head over to your local AutoZone and pick up a bottle of polishing compound and a microfiber cloth and give it a good buffing.

yeah, give it a good buff first. if you still don't like it you can think about refinning it. but you must realise that Oil will only give a gloss finish if you apply plenty of coats and buff and wet-sand it well. but it should keep the maple clean. I do maple neck with a few coats of shellac sealer and then some Tru-oil, it darkens the maple slightly but after than it stays clean.
