Need Expert Advice pt 2 - Nut Slots

Sign in to disble this ad
When one "widens" nut slots from a standard 45 / 65 / 85 / 105 slot gauge width to allow for 65 / 85 / 105 / 125 gauge [BEAD]; do any spacers need to be added to the bottom of the slots to raise the strings ever so slightly to account for the slightly wider amplitude of the new string gauges which may cause fret buzz?

In other words is there any negligible dimensional difference between the bottoms of the slots to the top of the fret board relative to the larger string gauges? Thanks Guys

If you think about it, you'd only be looking at this possibility with the open strings, and the first fret. It's about 102% unlikely that there'll be a wide enough swing there. You'll probably have a little bit more relief in the neck w/BEAD, which will give you more room to work with, too.

I have a fretless Frankebass in BEAD, records like a dream!
