Neoprene and nitro finishes

I have an old guitar stand that I got out of storage. The rubber tube on it had gotten hard and crumbled when I touched it. After removing all of it I replaced it with neoprene from a mouse pad. My question is, will neoprene (cloth side) harm nitro finishes?

It touches both at the headstock and at the back of the bass.

Not sure about that thin cloth backing, but generally, yes, neoprene will eat a nitro finish. Its the offgassing as I understand it. I would avoid it myself, too big a risk...
