neutrik jack side installation

Sign in to disble this ad
I am thinking getting rid of my barrel jack for something more reliable. It's a side mount, in a place where the body curves. Thinking about a Neutrik locking jack, but not sure how to mount it on a curved surface. How have others handled this?

Slightly flatten the area where it will be mounted?

Fender did that with Telecasters, it's so slight that it hardly looks flattened at all, but it can be felt.

i dont think that the jack plate is large enough to have to worry about it. it should just sit very flush as is. i have never used them before but in all the pictures ive seen the plate looks less than an inch wide, anyone who has used them?

Just flatten the area underneath the mounting plate and it will sit flat but hardly change the look of the bass.

I've used one and the plate is 1" x 1.25". I had to flatten the curve and actually recessed the jack plate into the body so that it would sit flush.

I believe that I have see Warrior basses that have a dense foam shim to ease the curve.

There is no foam shim in my Warrior. Here are some pics. They just make the route flat.

That's definitely the way to do it! I am just not sure I am willing to do it that way ;-)

I don't see a need for a locking jack, so you step on your cable sending you and your bass flying into the floorboards instead of it popping out and making some noise?

I think more important than the "some noise" is being in the middle of a song and having the bass cut out. No problem if you're a bedroom player, but for those who play to an audience, that's a biggish deal.

Looping the cable through the strap has prevented that form happening to me for 40 years. Don't need no New-Trick jacks.

One way I've done this is to make a wooden washer that's flat on top and curved on the bottom to match the body. It only took a few minutes to make. I'll see if I can dig up a pic.

I kinda feel that would be better than falling flat on ones face, making an even larger noise, and having the bass stop playing while he gets back up.

The loopty-loop has performed more consistently than I have.

By golly, that's gotta be one of the most helpful and constructive posts ever to appear on TB; I'm sure it's exactly the kind of advice the OP was looking for. Thank you!
