I've completed the design of a 5-string version of my NC-4. I have two in the works. Check out the body design and let me know what you think.

Sorry Funk, I need a neck or neck pocket in there to really give me the idea...

Great looking joinery and that top is ubercool.

Looks really great from what I can see. Any chance anyone can shrink the images and repost them?

Looks good IMO. Single cut, eh? But it isn't easy to get a good impression of it without the neck....

Thanks all.

I'll have a neck on it by this weekend hopefully. The necks on both basses are glued up and cut to shape. I just need to fit them to the bodies and route the pocket.

The one not shown will be black with a pearloid "g" shaped pickguard. The neck will feature MOP block inlays and binding.

The top and back are redwood burl.

Here's another picture with the neck on. The neck hasn't been shaped yet but you'll get the idea.

This bass is just asking for neck dive. Your top "horn" is too short.

It'll be balanced properly. I make pretty thin necks and will use Hipshot ultralight tuners. The bridge will be brass and I plan on fitting it with two EMG soapbar pups.

The 4-string has no neck dive at all. The upper horn on the 5-string is slightly longer than that of the 4-string.

What is the scale length? I just got a rid of a Roscoe and I don't miss it at all. The upper horn wasn't long enough and it made playing in the lower register quite difficult for any amount of time.

It's a 35" scale. When I designed it I took the short horn into consideration. I don't like a bass that you have to stretch your arm all the way out to play on the first fret. I used a 22 fret neck which allows me to position the bridge at the very back of the body reducing the overall length of the neck. I just attached the neck to the body with double sided tape and when I pick it up by the upper horn with two fingers it balances. Thats without the weight of the bridge and pickups and includes all the extra weight of the neck before radiusing the fretboard and shaping the back.

See the attached picture.

Opps!!!

I didn't realize it looked that way. My middle finger happens to be stronger than my pointer so I used it to hold the bass. Sorry everyone.........

This bass *will* neck dive for sure with the regular strap. The center of masses here is just under the top strap button and that's wrong. Look: all the mass will be applied to one side of the strap, it will slide on you.

Well, it sure is beautifull. Sounds like you've taken everything into consideration. Looking forward to seeing it when it's done.
