I've completed the design of a 5-string version of my NC-4. I have two in the works. Check out the body design and let me know what you think. http://geusnet.com/~goodmanje/image/NC-5/ |

I'll have a neck on it by this weekend hopefully. The necks on both basses are glued up and cut to shape. I just need to fit them to the bodies and route the pocket.
The one not shown will be black with a pearloid "g" shaped pickguard. The neck will feature MOP block inlays and binding. |

Here's another picture with the neck on. The neck hasn't been shaped yet but you'll get the idea.

The 4-string has no neck dive at all. The upper horn on the 5-string is slightly longer than that of the 4-string. |

The upper horn wasn't long enough and it made playing in the lower register quite difficult for any amount of time. |

I don't like a bass that you have to stretch your arm all the way out to play on the first fret. I used a 22 fret neck which allows me to position the bridge at the very back of the body reducing the overall length of the neck. I just attached the neck to the body with double sided tape and when I pick it up by the upper horn with two fingers it balances. Thats without the weight of the bridge and pickups and includes all the extra weight of the neck before radiusing the fretboard and shaping the back.
See the attached picture.

I didn't realize it looked that way. My middle finger happens to be stronger than my pointer so I used it to hold the bass. Sorry everyone......... |

The center of masses here is just under the top strap button and that's wrong. Look: all the mass will be applied to one side of the strap, it will slide on you. |
