I agree Jauqo! It's always nice to see lefties pop up, so this one's caught my eye, not to mention the beautiful choice of wood!

Body is now complete and ready for final sanding. Here is a shot mocked up with the fingerboard blank and some hardware.

Wow! Beautiful bass. What stain did you use to get the quilt to pop like that. Very nice work.

Hi John - glad you dig the bass. What you see here in terms of finish is about three coats of an oil/varnish blend to simultaneously bring out the depth of grain and fill it. Now that is has built up a thin surface film, I'll hit it with a couple more coats of thinned gloss varnish this weekend for additional surface protection.

After that, I'll let it cure out for two weeks and then it's ready for buffing, assembly and ship to the customer. All goes according to plan, this particular bass will make its debut at SummerFest 2010 in Milwaukee.

We are nearing completion on this bass. I've given the finish some extra time to cure due to the heat and humidity we're experiencing right now in the midwest. And physical therapy on my arm has meant I've had to go easy on myself in the shop!

Drilling controls

Finish Rubout

Fitting pickup covers

Assembly Phase 1

Initial string up

This is nice! But every time I look at a left hand bass it hurts my brain.
