Hey gang,

I've had to take a break from building for a little while due to some injuries sustained in a car accident...just glad to be alive all things considered (woman ran a red light right into my car, all of two inches in front of the driver door).

In an effort to cheer myself up, I did get in by special delivery a pair of nice thick popcorn quilted boards which should yield some especially striking tops. Looking forward to being able to put these to good use once I am in form to handle the equipment.

Are those thick enough to bookmatch? They are striking.

Lonny,

Sorry to hear of the nasty experience you've had! I hope you recover in a timely fashion and to full health!

As a side note - that wood's fantastic!

By looks of the square I'd say they're 5/4

Thanks guys. This has been a rough month, no doubt about it. The pain running through my hand, arms and shoulder has meant the double whammy of no playing and no building for the time being. I am truly lucky though - this could have been an infinitely worse situation by just a matter of inches. The medications do give me just a little bit of pain-free time each day which I can use to pound out emails and maybe noodle around a bit, but that's really all.

In answer to the question about the panels, these boards are bookmatched though I did not go to the trouble of lining up the grain for the photo (not enough energy for that!). What I will probably do is make bookmatched veneers from each of the panels in which case I can probably yield about 6 to 8 matching tops.

Lonny,
Thank God that you are safe and recovering.
I'll look forward to seeing the build with these killer tops! I always enjoy your work.
