Hey all....yep still alive....thanks to all that's holy, and those good souls in the Medical profession.

Just got back from Vacation, and stopped into Grizzly(Muncy, PA) on the way Back from the East Coast. And guess what I got?

Hmmmm open the box and find a wood box....interesting...LMAO

New Grizzly 18" open end Thickness sander. My old Woodtek is out for repairs, so I thought I'd treat myself to a new toy....LOL wooohoooo......business is good, and the complete re-tooling is on.
Just wanted to share with people who might appreciate it....wife just doesn't seem to get it....LOL

Very nice!

Don't ever feed it ziricote - you'll see why in about 5 minutes.

All the ziricote I've ever sanded gums up the drum something fierce with resin - worse than cocobolo or bocote which were the worst before that. 80 grit literally lasts about 5 minutes before I have to scrape off the boogers with a chisel, even using all the tricks (uber-light passes with the feed at 100%, feeding it at an angle, etc).

Now I run it through the thickness planer on flat board lined with sandpaper.

I read somewhere last week that you can set up a drum sander with hook & loop and use appropriately backed rolls of paper, which apparently stays cleaner because it runs cooler - but a different way of running the sander.

Paul, I think we have the same dust collector (and drum sander).

How is the build quality on Grizzly power tools? Is it pretty solid stuff? How is it in quality compared to Delta/Jet/Craftsman? How about replacement parts- are they easy to get? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I don't have any experience with Grizzly tools, I keep hearing about them lately though and I'm curious.

I have found Grizzly stuff to be quite well made, and easy to repair. Grizzly is a great company to work with. It's not Powermatic, SCMI, or Laguna, but for the price it can't be beat, and holds up as well as Delta, Jet, and Craftsman Professional. Taylor Guitars uses many Grizzly machines, as does Tom Anderson, these guys make some of the nicest guitars around, so I equate it to being good quality, along with my own experiences being very good with Grizzly.

hope this helps
