Newbie SX Modification

Hi all,

I'm definately green when it comes to performing small scale modifications on existing basses. Never done it before, but I'd like to try my hand, but I'm looking for some input from some more experienced people.

Basically, I've acquired a stock, black and maple SX P, that I want to perform some heavy mods to (black hardware, new pups, etc). I know that I won't trust myself enough to install the pickups as I've never used a soldering iron for anything, so I'll be hitting up the local guitar shop for that service. However I was wondering if throwing on a very basic Gotoh bridge and some Schaller tuners that I'm planning on picking up off of Warmoth will be as simple as installing them into the pre-existing holes? Has anyone performed this kind of modification themselves?

Hi Sarcastro,
The Gotoh 201 bridge is said to be an exact replacement for the SX bridge. You can easily do it yourself with just a screwdriver. The tuners are a little trickier because they come in different sizes, so make sure you measure the holes carefully to buy the right size replacement. Even then you might have to drill new holes for the tiny screws. I think you can do it yourself no problem. Are you comfortable setting up a bridge (saddle height and intonation)? You are going to need to do that once you get the new bridge on there; it won't be good to go right out of the box.

I've never done a proper setup before, but I'm thinking that I could easily find a thread here which would walk me through it?
