The newest toy!

I have wanted to pop this puppy up for a while but wanted to wait for more progress.

Josh Helms of J.J. Helms Custom Basses has been working on this bass for the last month or so and we're within a month of completion.

If I can manage the picks I'm curious of the response.

You CAN have one.

Helms basses are extremely reasonably priced, AND they are truly custom. Everyone of his basses are unique.

To be honest I'm not a fan of the shape too much, but the contours on that thing are amazing! The craftmenship is very very good.

I didn't like the drawing-

Not at first, but seeing actual progress, it's growing on me. Don't stop!

I'm with Worshiper and Basteban, didn't really like the drawing much at first, but seeing the actual bass taking shape is much nicer; and as I am/was building a bass, I can well appreciate how much work is into it. Great job!

AAAAAARGH!!! Looks nice, too nice... Much better than the similarly styled body I want to make for my EUB... I'm jealous.

I like it...I like the carving, it's great.

but, what's that big routed spot in the middle for? certainly it isn't the world's largest pickup. Is it?

I'll have to see it finished before I can really appreciate it, I think.

Sliding pickup maybe? I really dig that body shape. First time I've liked a bass with Omega cuts at the waist.

Looks cool. im going to school to learn to be a luthier, and about a year ago i came up with a guitar design similar but nothing like this bass. it had two horns and was a guitar obviously. but definantly a very awesome looking bass.

Well I've grown to appreciate the shape after following this thread. It is unique and Josh looks like he does nice work!
My two cents (even though no one asked for it)...
The contour seems a bit too abrupt - a more smoother,
more gradual transition to the edge of the bass would look
cool!!

Can't wait to see what goes in that huge rout!

Almost done!

I'm certainly pumped. Progress pix are here but it's too radical to let the cat outta the bag yet.
