nickel or chrome screws?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have two sets of pickup mounting screws and I think one is nickel and the other chrome or stainless steel.

How can you tell which is nickel or chrome?

What is the difference between the materials (nickel, chrome, stainless steel)?

And which is more vintage correct?

Most stainless isn't affected by magnets, but some is. It depends on the type and how it's been worked. 300 series isn't usually affected, but sometimes it can be if it's been cold worked. 400 series is affected by magnets.

nickel or chrome screws?

The nickel will look more grey than the chrome screws.

Hi,

nickel plating would be considered more vintage-correct since it was used mostly before chrome plating. It has a warmer, a bit goldish shade of its silver colour compared to chrome plating, wich is more 'cold' and yes, they tend to become greyish over time.
