Question Nitrocellulose Sealer and Paint Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm refinishing a Epi Thunderbird body. I stripped the bad boy down, sealed the grain, applied several coats of sand & sealer, primed the body with white nitrocellulose primer and then have applied several coats of ReRanch Ice Metallic Blue. I love the color, but I am now noticing that I didn't sufficiently seal the front and back of the body, so i can see pores, etc. in the wood that the paint isn't filling. I really want it to be a glassy finish. My question is this:

Can I reshoot it with sand & sealer and then sand it down and then go right back to the Ice Metallic Blue? Or will the sand & sealer taint the already in place color coat, requiring me to do another coat of white primer?

The primer is usally the way you fill all low areas. After priming, I sand with 600 wet until the finish is level, without flaws. Sometimes I need to reshoot more primer to accomplish this. Then you only need to put enough color on to have a consistent finish without light and dark spots. Lightly sanding the the last color coat may help you recheck your previous work to make sure you have a good finish. In your case, I would sand back the color until you remove the imperfections and then start over with the color.
