Is this normal

I was messing around on youtube, and stumbled across a video of a classical guitar player named Tom Ward. I noticed the frets on his guitar look almost broken. So I looked up a different video where he was playing a less beat up guitar and it was the same thing.

I have never seen anything like this before, is there some kind of reason behind it?

I believe its for intonation. Steve Vai uses them.

Its a good idea, I just don't know if the reward is worth the effort.

All about compensation.

Except the press on nails.
That's clearly a fashion thing.

It's weird but it works. Only way to make a guitar play in tune.

Kind of ironic, since classical guitars don't suffer from
the same intonation problems that steel string guitars
have.

Notice that classical guitar saddles are straight, not
angled. The saddle needed no compensation, but the
frets do?

The first thing I noticed is that the fret board widens until it is larger than the sound hole. That is a wide fret board. Maybe that design has something to do with it?

edit: I missed Brendon's post, oops.

In the video he said, that he uses all of his fingernails as picks, but for some reason he cant grow out his real nails or something.

That 9th fret(if I'm counting correctly)sure doesn't look right to me.Unless it's the angle of the pic,it looks like the space between the 8th and 9th fret on the e string is smaller than the space from the 9th to the 10th frets? That can't be correct, can it?

Lots to read there, but it explains things pretty clearly.

Fake fingernails and finger picks are extremely common to fingerstyle guitar players, no need to be an ignorant d**k about it.
