Nut Replacement

Did a quick forum search and was suprised to come up blank. Perhaps you can help. I need to replace the nut on my mexi-fender fretless. Anybody with any advice (other than take it to a tech)? I'd like to try this repair myself. It's just cooler when you work on your own bass, I think.
