Odd bass neck request

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all:

I am working on an unusual project. My need is somewhat unusual as well, so I am throwing it out here to the luthiers hoping someone can help me.

What I need is a neck (think Fender P bass) that is capable of 20 frets. This neck should be the WOOD ONLY, shaped with the proper curvature, preferably with the headstock drilled for tuners, but NO frets, no fret wires, no nut, no fingerboard - just flat on top.

It should have a truss rod. I am not overly concerned about material type. It does not have to be finished/painted/whatever, just raw. Basically, a neck with the fingerboard sliced off.

And yes, I'm sure you figured, I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it.....not having the fingerboard should help reduce the cost. I'm happy to pay for it.

So, what am I doing here? I'd like to keep it under wraps right now....this is but one hurdle in many for what I am trying to do. Nothing earthshaking for the general bass populous, mind you, more a personal project that I may "fan out" to interested parties, ultimately.

Can someone help me out here? Doing this would be far preferable to modifying/destroying an existing instrument. Thank you!

Chris

You can look at the Luthiers list or the who are you stickies, and contact some for price quotes, builders are not allowed to contact you due to the C.U.P. Good luck with your venture.
